Director, Chartered Wealth Manager & Stockbroker
Tom Spain founded the business in 2010, naming the business after his father a man of integrity and exceptional leadership. Tom wanted to be able to manage client funds in the same way he does his own and to base his business in the heart of two rural local communities he feels a strong affinity with.
In his early career Tom worked as a stockbroker at Edward Jones, originally based in Canary Wharf London, it was not long until he was asked to found a practice in Leicestershire that grew to be one of the largest in the firm. When Edward Jones closed their business in 2009, Tom decided to continue to serve the local community and found his own practice. Many of Tom’s clients have worked with him from the very beginning and become his best advocates for his straightforward approach to investing in quality businesses.
Tom holds a variety of financial qualifications including the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment’s level 6 qualification in Private Client Investment Advice & Management as well as the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Diploma in Financial Planning. Tom is a Chartered Wealth Manager and member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment as well as a member of the Personal Finance Society.
How Tom helps clients day to day:
Tom specialises in helping individual clients and business owners in Leicestershire and Rutland with their investment and retirement planning needs. Tom is an expert in individual shares, fixed income and retirement planning including SIPPs. He spends a lot of his time thinking and reading as well as conducting investment research on the companies within client portfolios.
Wealth Manager & Stockbroker
Sophie joined the Henry Spain team following our internship programme in July 2017, after deciding to leave teaching to pursue a career within the financial services sector. With a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics with Finance, Sophie utilised her skills and knowledge to qualify as a Secondary School Mathematics Teacher; a role which she held for a number of years.
After excelling during the 12-week internship programme, Sophie progressed to the role of Wealth Planning Assistant, providing support to the in-house Wealth Managers by assisting in appointments and helping clients on a daily basis with any queries they may have. This role helped develop her knowledge and experience within investment management, and has prepared her for taking on her new role of Wealth Manager. Sophie now helps people at our Market Harborough office on their personal investment journey.
Sophie excelled achieving her Certificate in Discretionary Management and more recently, her Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute and Advanced Pensions exam.
Wealth Manager & Stockbroker
Michael serves both private and corporate clients across Leicestershire & Northamptonshire, from our offices on the High Street in Market Harborough.
Working in large organisations, such as Lloyds Banking Group as part of a scholarship, has provided Michael with invaluable knowledge about the UK banking and investment landscape. Time spent working with the Civil Service has also sharpened Michael’s awareness of the interrelated nature of politics and capital markets – a key consideration when advising clients of their investment portfolios.
Day-to-day, Michael helps a wide range of clients, from retirees to business owners, put together a realistic and robust financial plan which will help them to achieve their financial goals and objectives. This could include saving for private education or university fees, planning for a comfortable retirement or ensuring there is a tax-efficient legacy left for descendants.
Michael studied Economics & Politics at University College London (UCL) and has completed his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute. Michael has also completed a further stockbroking qualification, enabling him to advise on individual equities.
